Emma Stone took home the award for best actress at the 2017 Oscars for her performance in La La Land.
The actress beat out Isabelle Huppert (Elle), Ruth Negga (Loving), Natalie Portman (Jackie), and Meryl Streep (Florence Foster Jenkins) for the honor.
Stone began her acceptance speech by first naming all of her fellow nominees, saying, "To the women in this category, you are all extraordinary, and I admire you. It has been the greatest honor to stand by you."
"A moment like this is a huge confluence of luck and opportunity," she said before thanking director Damien Chazelle for giving her a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity." Stone also gave co-star Ryan Gosling a shout-out at the podium, "Thank you for making me laugh and for always raising the bar."
The Best Actress, Best Director, Best Original Score and Best Original Song went to La La Land among other awards.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Jake Gyllenhaal are in talks to star in Studiocanal’s “Rio,” sources tell Variety. “A Bigger Splash” helmer Luca Guadagnino is directing from a script by Steven Knight. The film follows a financial reporter (Gyllenhaal) who travels to Rio de Janeiro to visit a wealthy friend (Cumberbatch), only to get sucked into a plot to fake his friend’s death. Studiocanal will finance and produce along with Gyllenhaal and his Nine Stories Productions and Cumberbatch and his Sunny March production company with Adam Ackland. Nine Stories partner Riva Marker will also produce. Studiocanal is planning to take the movie to the Cannes Film Festival to sell to international markets. Cumberbatch’s most recent movie, “Doctor Strange,” in which he played Marvel’s titular superhero, was one of his highest-grossing to date, hauling $677.6 million worldwide. » |
